He is probably the most decorated left-handed American professional bowler today and among bowlers who made bowling famous in the USA. He was nicknamed "Square Earl" and holds ten major professional titles, including being a two-time Firestone Tournament Champion, six-time Professional Bowler Association (PBA) National Champion, two-time American Bowling Congress (ABC) Masters Champion, and six-time Player of the Year with forty-three titles during his time with the PBA. He has been admitted into the ABC Hall of Fame and the PBA Hall of Fame.
