The Asiatic Bear (Ursus Thibetanus), Moon Bear, or Asian Black Bear, is a medium-sized bear species endemic to Asia. Most suited to the Arboreal lifestyle, the Asiatic Bear is a dark-colored bear with a light brown muzzle on the chest which is sometimes shaped like a V and has distinct white patches. Its ears take a bell shape which is considerably longer than those of other bears and hit the head sideways. It lives in the Himalayas of India, the Korean Peninsula, north-east China, East Russia, Japan's Shikoku islands and Taiwan.
Male Asiatic Black Bear have a shoulder height between 2’10”-3’4” (.86-1.02 m) and a weight in the range of 130-440 lb (60-200 kg). The shoulder heights of females are between 2’5”-3’ (.74-.91 m) with weights from 90-275 lb (41-125 kg). Asiatic Black Bears have overall body lengths of roughly 3’10”-6’6” (1.2-2 m), upright standing heights of 5’-5’6” (1.5-1.7 m), and a typical lifespan of 25-30 years in the wild and up to 35 years if protected in captivity.
