Introduced by designer Norman Cherner in 1958, a pioneer both in molded plywood and prefab housing, the Cherner Side Chair is a quintessential mid-century modern side chair. Artfully constructed out of laminated plywood of graduating thicknesses that range from 5 ply at its perimeter edges to 15 ply at its slender waist, the Cherner Side Chair is iconic for its dramatic sculptural form and exceptional structural strength.
Manufactured by Plycraft during the mid 20th century and discontinued in the 70s, this classic chair design was revived in the 1990s and is now manufactured by the Cherner Chair Company along with a selection of other designs, such as the Cherner Oval Table and Round Table.
The Cherner Side Chair has an overall height of 31.5” (80 cm), width of 18.5" (47 cm), and depth of 21.5” (55 cm). The seat height of the Cherner Side Chair is set at 18” (46 cm).
