Known to possess the strongest venom of any other scorpion, the Deathstalker (Leiurus quinquestriatus) is a dangerous species with a habitat range from North Africa into the Middle East. Also called the Omdurman scorpion, it typically lives in desert and scrubland areas where it burrows or hides underneath rocks. It is small, slender, and yellow in color with its size often indicating the intensity of its poison (smaller equates to more powerful). Although it is not likely for a healthy adult to die from being stung by a Deathstalker, it is still extremely painful with effects that include: vomiting, paralysis, and convulsions.
The Deathstalker has an overall length between 2.75”-4.33” (7-11 cm) and weight of .035-.09 oz (1-2.5 g). Deathstalkers have a body length of 1.18”-1.89” (3-4.8 cm), body width of .43”-.71” (1.1-1.8 cm), and body height of .28”-.43” (.7-1.1 cm). The typical lifespan of the Deathstalker is between 4-12 years.
