The Belgian Laekenois dog is a recently recognized breed as of July 2020. They are classified as a variety of the Belgian Shepherd. They had roles as herding dogs, guard dogs, and were used as messenger dogs in WWI and WWII. A part of the sheepdog family, the Belgian Laekenois is medium-sized dog with a square proportion. It has sharply triangular ears, a woolly brown and white coat, and black shading in the muzzle and tail. The breed is known to be affectionate, alert, and intelligent, but is protective of their owners and property.
