A Volleyball Block is aimed to completely stop an attack, making the ball stay in the opponent’s court. This is called offensive, and a well-executed offensive block is done by jumping and reaching with the arms and hands over the net and into the opposing side’s court. This requires anticipating the direction the ball will go once the attack takes place. A defensive or “soft” Block is performed if the goal is to control and deflect the ball up so that it slows down and becomes easier to defend. In a Soft-Block the hands do not enter the opposing side’s court.
