The Glen of Imaal Terrier is a terrier and one of four Irish terrier breeds. Its other names are the Irish Glen of Imaal Terrier, Wicklow Terrier, and Glen. The breed was originally used to get rid of other animals like the rat, fox, badger, and otter, and it also served as a general-purpose farm dog for herding and family companionship. It is a ”big dog on short legs” and is larger than might be expected from photos. The double coat is wiry with a soft undercoat; it has a large head, half-prick ears, short, bowed legs, and a wheaten or blue color.
Glen of Imaal Terriers have a withers height between 12”-14” (30-36 cm) and a typical weight in the range of 30-40 lb (14-18 kg). The Glen of Imaal Terrier has an overall body length of roughly 23”-26” (58-66 cm), standing height between 16”-18” (41-46 cm), and a typical lifespan of 10-15 years.
