Sylvia Plath was an American poet, novelist, and author known for exploring and advancing the genre of confessional poetry. Her most notable writings include The Colossus and Other Poem, The Bell Jar, and Ariel. Sylvia Plath received her education from Smith College in the United States. Throughout her writing, Sylvia Plath highlighted the injustices of sex-based roles as well psychiatric care. This led to her becoming a major part of American literature and becoming one of the most admired poets. Sylvia Plath was awarded Glascock Prize and the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry after her death. Sylvia Plath died on February 11, 1963 at the age of 30.
