Though not a true spaniel, the Tibetan Spaniel is a small and intelligent dog that has feline behaviors such as climbing on everything that piques their interest. A ”lion’s mane” around their neck is the most recognizable feature plus small domed heads, short blunt muzzle without wrinkles, neck full of hairs, and ears hanging down to their cheeks. Other characteristics on the Tibetan spaniel are the big expressive eyes set wide apart, black nose, silky double coat, feathered tail carried over their backs, and little bowed legs with the feet of hare. The dog has a miniature profile but is active and alert, expressing suspicion with loud barks.
Tibetan Spaniels have a withers height between 10”-11” (25-28 cm) and a typical weight in the range of 9-15 lb (4-7 kg). The Tibetan Spaniel has an overall body length of roughly 19”-20” (48-51 cm), standing height between 14”-15” (36-38 cm), and a typical lifespan of 12-16 years.
