Maine Coon Cats are the largest breed of domestic cat and are distinguished by their long silky coats of fur and sociable personalities. One of the first natively American cat breeds established by the early settlers, the Maine Coon received its name from the state of Maine where its long thick coat and hunting skills helped it survive the harsh winters.
