The West Caucasian Tur (Capra caucasica) is a nocturnal goat-antelope that eats grass and leaves. It is native to the Caucasian mountain range. Other communities call it the Caucasian ibex, zac, or zebudar. It has a large narrow body and short legs. Both sexes have scimitar-shaped ridged horns. Males also have beards. The coat of the West Caucasian tur is rusty gray or rusty chestnut but lighter on the underbelly while the legs are dark brown. Males and females form separate herds, but this can change by their seasonal migration and the need for mating, where both sexes can be seen in one herd.
West Caucasian Turs have a standing shoulder height between 31.5”-43.3” (80-110 cm), overall body length from 47.2”-65” (120-165 cm), standing height of roughly 35.4”-47.6” (90-121 cm), and a body width of 10.6”-15.4” (27-39 cm). The weight of a West Caucasian Tur is between 121-220 lb (55-100 kg). West Caucasian Turs have a typical lifespan of 10-19 years.
