She is working as a Warrant Officer aboard the USCSS Nostromo when the crew are woken early from hyper sleep to answer a distress signal. When the team goes to investigate, they inadvertently bring aboard a face hugger, which lays an egg and later evolves into a particularly brutal and impregnable species of Alien. After it kills the team one by one, Ellen is left on her own aboard the ship and successfully outwits and destroys the Alien. Ellen is smart, principled, and strategic.
