Martin Luther King Jr. was a Christian minister and civil rights activist. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1929, and grew up witnessing the racial inequality present in society. He became a Christian Minister, and then a leader of the civil rights movement. He is known for his advocacy of nonviolent forms of civil disobedience.
He helped organize the Selma to Montogomery marches, a series of three protests promoting voting rights for African-Americans. In 1964, Martin Luther King Jr. won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work. He was assassinated in 1968 by James Earl Ray - there has been much speculation about FBI involvement in his death.
