Public space is an area that is considered accessible to the general public or people. Typically referring to various types of dedicated shared spaces in our cities, towns, and buildings, public spaces often include urban squares or plazas, parks, beaches, and pedestrian walkways and paths. Distinct from private spaces that are maintained and controlled for specific groups of people and semi-public spaces that require a cost such as cafes or theaters, public spaces are free spaces that are representative democratized sites for planned and unplanned events, protests and gatherings. The followed sets of related components and elements common to public spaces have been compiled to assist in the planning and design of public space.
