Malcolm X was an American muslim minister and human rights activist who became well known during the civil rights movement. In his youth, he was involved in petty crime but it was during his time in prison he became aware of the work of the Nation of Islam and subsequently joined their organization. He became the public face of the group during the civil rights movement.
His ideas created controversy; he advocated for racial segregation and disagreed with Martin Luther King Jr’s nonviolent activist tactics. He was assassinated in 1965 by members of the Nation of Islam, whilst speaking at a rally in New York City. Mystery still clouds the reason for his murder. Malcolm X is considered one of the most influential Americans of all time.
