Irwin’s experience with and study of animals came from growing up on his parents’ wildlife park, now known as the Australian Zoo, where his father taught him how to handle crocodiles. He continued on to become the host of the series The Crocodile Hunter, which was internationally broadcasted to more than 200 countries. He was catapulted into popular culture, recognized for his notable catchphrases, trademark khaki attire, and enthusiastic spirit. Irwin passed away in 2006 after being killed by a stingray while on a diving expedition.
