Shelob is a much-feared creature in J.R.R Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings novels. She is the last child of Ungoliant, a primordial who took the shape of a gigantic spider, and is in turn, part spider and part demon. She is gigantic in size and immobilizes her prey with her sting, before trapping them in her vast network of webs and feeding on them at leisure. She lives in Mordor, and attacks indiscriminately, usually against those who have crossed her path.
Shelob is portrayed in the Lord of the Rings films as having a standing height of 6’ (1.83 m), overall width of 17’ (5.18 m), and body length of 8’ (2.44 m).
