He took over control of Torrio’s bootlegging business and took extremely violent measures to expand it, doing so without fear of law enforcement due to establishing relationships with both the mayor and city police. Al Capone reigned as a crime boss for seven years total until being incarcerated and ultimately retiring following his release.
