The Egyptian Mau cat, quite possibly the revered domestic cat of Ancient Egypt, is known for being the only naturally spotted domestic cat. The Egyptian Mau is a loyal, playful breed who loves to play hunt and leave treasures for his owner. Not particular fond of strangers, but extremely affectionate to his owner, the Egyptian Mau will communicate how he feels with a series of “chortles.” The pedigreed breed of Egyptian Maus almost went extinct after World War II, but the exiled Russian princess, Nathalie Troubetskoy, stepped in to save the breed through rescues and inbreeding.
