The LaPerm, a cat breed born from a spontaneous gene mutation, is known for its fluffy, soft, and curly coat. Despite its love for cuddles, the LaPerm also enjoys a good hunt of a catnip mouse, as it originated from barnyard cats.
In 1982, Linda Koehl’s brown tabby cat gave birth to a litter containing one cat that was born bald, only to sprout a curly coat eight weeks later. Falling in love with the personality and coat of this LaPerm kitten, Linda Koehl allowed her cat, Curly, to mate and produce offspring of curly coated cats. In 1992, Linda Koehl brought her cats to show, named them LaPerm, and was informed by the judges that this new breed was completely unknown to the cat fancy world, until that moment.
LaPerm Cats have an overall height of 6”-10” (15-25 cm), body length of 12”-16” (30-41 cm), and weight between 6-10 lb (2.7-4.5 kg). LaPerm Cats have a typical lifespan between 10-15 years.
