Lurtz was a character created for Peter Jackson’s 2001 film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. He is the first of the Uruk-hai to be bred by Saruman, and upon waking, immediately chokes another Orc to death. He is a particularly brutual character, malicious and violent. He quickly become Saruman’s second-in-command and leads the first battalion of Uruk-hai against the Fellowship of the Ring. He is eventually slain by Aragorn. Lurtz is played by New Zealand actor Lawrence Makoare.
