He is a very powerful wizard and is the leader of the White Council of Isengard which was formed as an opposition to the Dark Lord Sauron. Although initially an enforcer of peace across Middle Earth, he begins to desire the One Ring for himself and eventually allies with Mordor. He is eventually defeated and dies in battle against Gandalf the White.
